Step 3: Water absorbency test (Soak test): Table 1
• Cut 5 cm yarn pieces. Yarn Absorbency Suitability
• Dip each in water for 2 minutes. Cotton yarn
• Remove and check water absorption. Wool yarn
Polyester yarn
Nylon yarn
TASK 3: Fabric identification and suitability for wet processing
Step 1: Visual and Feel Test: Step 3: Simple Dye Drop Test (Optional):
• Take one sample fabric and observe its surface • Apply a drop of dilute water-soluble dye on fabric.
(weave/knit), weight, thickness, and texture. • Observe how quickly and how well it is absorbed.
• Feel the softness, drape, and flexibility.
Table 2
• Likewise take all the samples one by one, observe Fabric Dye uptake Result
its appearance and feel and write it in the notebook.
Cotton
Step 2: Water Drop Absorbency Test:
Wool
• Place a drop of water on one fabric sample. Silk
• Observe speed and spread of water. Polyester
• Likewise observe on all the fabric samples. And note Step 4: Yarn Pull Test (For Fabric Structure
it on the below mentioned table 1 Identification):
Table 1 • Using a needle or pin, pull threads from fabric edge:
Fabric Absorption Spread - Woven fabrics: Straight yarns (warp and weft).
Cotton - Knitted fabrics: Loops.
Wool - Non-woven: Random fibers.
